4 days bird watching safari Rwanda Overview

This 4 Days bird watching safari will expose you to most of interesting natures among the thousand hills. Visit Nyungwe Forest, the massive montane forest found in southern Rwanda and the largest in Central Africa. Nyungwe is home to 13 primate species including chimpanzee and large groups of Rwenzori Colobus. Around 300 bird species, orchids and butterflies are other attractions that are within the park. While on safari, clients stay 3 nights at the basic ORTPN Gisakura Rest house which is situated on the Western edge of Nyungwe forest.

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport and Bird Watching

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by our representative and begin your bird-watching experience in Rwanda. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy birding around Kigali and along the scenic route to your hotel, where you can observe some of the country’s diverse bird species. After checking in at Okapi Hotel, you will have time to relax and freshen up. Dinner and overnight at Okapi Hotel.

Day 2: Kigali – Akagera National Park for Bird Watching

After breakfast, you will depart Kigali and travel to Akagera National Park, one of Rwanda’s remarkable destinations for bird watching and wildlife experiences. Upon arrival, you will begin exploring the park’s expansive savannah landscapes, wetlands, and scenic surroundings along the Akagera River. The diverse habitats provide opportunities to observe a variety of bird species while enjoying the beautiful panoramic views of the park. Dinner and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge.

Day 3: Full-Day Bird Watching in Akagera National Park

After breakfast, you will set out for a full day of bird watching in Akagera National Park, exploring its diverse habitats in search of both resident and seasonal bird species. With its savannah plains, woodland areas, lakes, and wetlands, the park offers excellent opportunities for birding enthusiasts. Among the species you may encounter are the Black-headed Gonolek, Bennett’s Woodpecker, Long-toed Lapwing, Tabora Cisticola, White-winged Warbler, Swamp Flycatcher, White-collared Barbet, and Miombo Wren-warbler. You will enjoy a packed lunch or return to the lodge for lunch, depending on your birding itinerary, before continuing your exploration or relaxing at the lodge. Dinner and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge.

Day 4: Departure from Rwanda

After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and prepare for your onward journey. Depending on your travel arrangements, you may be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your flight back home or continue to another destination, such as Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, or another preferred travel destination. This marks the end of your memorable Rwanda bird-watching safari with Tukumbe Tours and Travel.
